Recently, the Australian Department of Immigration and Multicultural Affairs (Immigration Department) announced an important new visa policy, offering significant convenience for Chinese visitors to Australia.
Australia has officially opened a "Frequent Traveller Stream" visa, with a maximum validity of 10 years, for Chinese nationals. This policy has already come into effect.
Under the new policy, the Frequent Traveller Stream falls under Australia's Subclass 600 visa category.
The main features of this visa include:
1. A maximum validity of up to 10 years.
2. Visa holders can stay in Australia for up to 3 months per visit.
3. The visa is aimed at tourists who plan to travel to Australia frequently.
Key Points of the Visa Policy Adjustment:
1. Removal of Special Restrictions for Chinese Passport Holders
Previously, Chinese citizens applying for this visa were required to be physically in China. This restriction has now been removed under the new policy.
This means that Chinese nationals can apply for this visa regardless of their location.
1. Expansion of Eligible Countries
In addition to China, this visa policy will also apply to several other Asian countries, including:
Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, East Timor, Vietnam, and more.
Basic Requirements for Chinese Nationals Applying for the Frequent Traveler Stream:
· Hold a valid Chinese passport.
· Provide a complete travel itinerary and supporting documents at the time of application.
· Ensure compliance with the visa’s stay limit and other relevant regulations during the visa validity period.
The specific application process is gradually being published on the Australian Immigration Department’s official website. Applicants are advised to stay updated and closely monitor for any announcements.
New Australian Immigration Rules in Effect
In addition, Australia has also introduced a new Core Skills Occupation List (CSOL), aimed at speeding up the approval of visa applications for hundreds of new occupations to boost Australia's economic development.
The new visa policy includes occupations such as yoga instructors, flight attendants, journalists, beauticians, and goat farmers.
To support the struggling construction industry, professions such as building inspectors, bricklayers, and carpenters have also been added to the list. The full CSOL list released by the federal government includes 456 occupations. According to a report from Nine News on December 3, all these occupations will be included in the “Skills in Demand visa” program, offering a clear pathway for migrant workers to address Australia’s labor shortage.
Tony Burke, the Minister for Home Affairs and Immigration, stated: “We are committed to addressing skills shortages, particularly in the construction industry. This is an important step in attracting qualified workers to help build more housing." Minister for Skills and Training, Andrew Giles, also emphasized the need to attract more construction workers to tackle housing shortages. He said, "This system aims to address real skills gaps in the economy while complementing local Australian workers’ training.”
